In recent months, two Basque schools, San Félix Ortuella and La Inmaculada Barakaldo, have implemented the European project Soundscapes, an innovative initiative aimed at fostering computational thinking and creativity in the classroom through programming, robotics, and data sonification. This educational experience is being carried out with the active collaboration of the University of Deusto, as partners of the Soundscapes project, working closely with primary education teachers from both schools.
As part of the project, workshops have been conducted with students, using the micro:bit board to collect data through sensors and create small databases. These data sets were then transformed into sound through sonification processes, allowing students to explore new, creative, and accessible ways of representing information. This approach strengthens students' understanding of data handling, analysis, and interpretation, while helping them develop key 21st-century skills.
The implementation will continue throughout September and October, with additional classroom sessions and teacher training, enabling educators to further integrate the Soundscape project resources into their teaching practices.
This project marks another step forward in the adoption of innovative methodologies in education, bringing young learners closer to technology through a creative, inclusive, and meaningful perspective.
