The Institute hosts a seminar on transitional justice and reconciliation

27 May 2024

Bilbao Campus

As part of a research project on the topic, the seminar The Road from Transitional Justice to Reconciliation was held on the 23rd and 24th, with the main objective of collectively reflecting on how Transitional Justice (TJ) can (and cannot) contribute to Reconciliation in societies that have suffered severe and systematic human rights violations in the context of violent conflicts. Within the theoretical frameworks developed in the field of TJ, the dialogue focused particularly on the four pillars of TJ: truth, justice, reparation, and guarantees of non-repetition.

The seminar was attended by academics from different universities (Georgetown University, Brunel University, University of Leuven, The Ohio State University, Javeriana University, University of Bristol, University of Marburg, University College Stockholm, and the University of the Basque Country), as well as human rights experts and activists.
