On 5 December, students from the Philosophy, Politics and Economics degree and the Master’s in Democratic Innovation at the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences visited the Basque Parliament to observe firsthand one of the most valuable aspects of representative democracies: accountability.
During the meeting, they were able to see how the Parliament holds the Government to account through the questions raised in the control session, in which the executive explains its actions to citizens through their representatives. The topics of the control session focused on social policies to improve work–life balance, the protection of the Basque industry, immigration management, and memory policies.
The Lehendakari of the Basque Government, Imanol Pradales, shared his insights and engaged in dialogue with the students on the importance of government accountability for the quality of Basque democracy. Representatives of the main parliamentary groups also had the opportunity to explain their activities in the plenary and to discuss various political and social issues related to the parliamentary control session.
