Welcome and orientation sessions will be held at the University of Deusto on 3 and 4 September for some 1,800 first-year students at the Bilbao and San Sebastian campuses. International students coming to the campuses on different mobility programmes will also be welcomed on these dates. Students enrolled in all other years of study will begin classes on 7 September.

During the different presentations, new students will have the opportunity to meet their tutors and university staff and find out about aspects related to their studies, university services and campus facilities.

These sessions mark the start of the 2015-2016 academic year, with the official ceremony on 14 September held in San Sebastian and presided by Basque President Iñigo Urkullu and Rector José María Guibert.

Industry 4.0 Professionals

Several new degree programmes will begin this academic year Especially outstanding are the Engineering programmes that combine experience in ICT, industry, design and business to train Industry 4.0 professionals, intelligent factories. The Faculty has designed a complete range of double Bachelor's degrees based on existing programmes with the aim of training experts in different fields who are better equipped to face the future challenges of business and industry.

Other new programmes include the new Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design Engineering, which is the first of its kind in Biscay, and can also be combined as a double Bachelor’s degree with Mechanical Engineering. The Bachelor’s degree in Euskal Hizkuntza eta Kultura / Basque Language and Culture is another new addition to the academic offer. Other double Bachelor's degree programmes are Law + Labour Relations, Euskal Hizkuntza eta Kultura gehi Hizkuntza Modernoak (ingeles ikasketak) /Basque Language and Culture + Modern Languages (English Studies), and Social Education + Social Work. The double Bachelor’s degree in Social Education + Social Work will be taught for the first time at the San Sebastian campus this year.

Welcome to international students

The welcome ceremony for international students in Bilbao will be held on 4 September at 14:15 in the Auditorium. Álvaro de la Rica, Vice -Rector of International Relations will speak at the event. Following the ceremony, students will take a guided tour of Bilbao's old city. The welcome ceremony will be held at the San Sebastian campus on 3 September.

Some 450 international students and lecturers from countries such as Germany, Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Belarus, Brazil, Bolivia, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Denmark, El Salvador, Slovakia, the United States, Finland, France, Guatemala, Honduras, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Kazajistan, Latvia, Lithuania, Mexico, Moldavia, Norway, the Netherlands, Palestine, Peru, Poland, Portugal, the United Kingdom, the Czech Republic, the Dominican Republic, Romania, Sweden, Switzerland, Tajikistan, Turkey, Uzbekistan and Ukraine will be at the UD campuses the first semester.
