Faculty of Engineering (Bilbao campus)
The University of Deusto and Telefónica have renewed their Chair in Digital Industry, thus ratifying their more than 20-year commitment to the digitisation of industry. Asier Perallos, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, and Javier Benito, director of Telefónica in the Basque Country, signed this agreement on 7 October. This agreement confirms the commitment to the development of young talent focused on the need to apply new technologies to all industrial processes, products and services.
Under this strategic partnership, the digital multinational and the academic institution have agreed to work on two distinct fronts. On the one hand, students will work on the technological challenges that will be developed in the company's ecosystem (direct training through the university-business relationship, a format in which the Jesuit institution maintains a distinctive commitment); and, on the other hand, a forum will be set up where qualified debate and meetings will be held, in which the priorities and key actions for technological-based competitive development for the industry will be addressed together with all the stakeholders. All this, without forgetting other actions to be developed in the fields of dissemination and research.
Through this agreement, Telefónica reaffirms its commitment to the university by providing professional projects to new generations of technologists, with the aim of ensuring that the talent of Deusto's engineers is fully promoted. These initiatives initially involve students from the Computer Engineering and Data Science and Artificial Intelligence degrees, although new subjects will gradually be incorporated.
