Deusto, winner of the 9th Unijes San Franciso Javier Debate League

 The University of Deusto has won the ninth San Francisco Javier UNIJES Debate League that was held from the 5th to the 7th of March at the Holy Family University Centre (Úbeda). A total of 10 teams and 40 students belonging to different Jesuit universities in Spain (University Loyola Andalucía, Comillas Pontifical University and University of Deusto, as well as the host institution) took part in this educational competition. The main topic that was debated was "Is ecology the big loser in the crisis?”
Three Deusto teams formed by twelve students each took part in the contest: Rubén Gil, Jon Bilbao, Nagore Bañuelos, Marina de Quevedo, Alexandra Vaquerano, Javier Carazo, Lorenzo Esteban, Virginia García, Roxana Fernández, Beatriz, Urbina, Sara de la Mora and Raquel González. Jointly with their coach, Mikel Baigorrotegui, they were able to improve the competences acquired during their degree studies: Dialectics, ethics, oratory skills, research...

The teams from the Comillas Pontifical University and the University of Deusto reached the final round. Team members were Tomás González, Ana Gascón, Jesús Dámaso and Miguel García, Roxana Fernández, Beatriz Urbina, Sara de la Mora and Raquel González. The members of the jury were Soledad de la Blanca (CEO of SAFA Foundation), Álvaro Pérez (Coordinator of the Debate Society of SAFA Foundation), Belén Montijano (lecturer and founder of the Debate Society of the SAFA Foundation), Manuel Burguillos, SJ (Associate for the Department of Cultural Activities at Comillas Pontifical University) and Jonatan Caro (Coordinator of Deusto Campus Culture).
Pedro Echeguren was awarded the Comillas Pontifical University prize for Best Speaker.

Soledad de la Blanca (CEO of the SAFA Foundation), Álvaro Pérez (Coordinator of the Debate Society of the SAFA Foundation), Manuel Burguillos, SJ (Associate for the Department of Cultural Activities of Comillas Pontifical University) and Fernando Asenjo (CEO of Deusto Campus) gave the opening addresses at the event.

The work of the different people involved in the organisation was remarkable, as well as the commitment of the 40 volunteers from the SAFA Foundation whose contributions ensured that the event ran smoothly.
