Javier Arellano, director of the Center for Applied Ethics and member of the Interdisciplinary Research Platform Strengthening Participation published an article of opinion at the regional newspaper “El Correo” about the new society and politics after COVID-19. In the article, Arellano states that "we are going to need a new cartography to live in the resulting world", "new ways of thinking and setting collective goals, new ways of discerning the paths that will lead us to these”.

The researcher also highlights that the pandemic has reminded us, in a dramatic way, the meaning of vulnerability and interdependence. He notes that the response from the governments of the affected countries involves "unprecedented public intervention and commitment to spending." "The State, as guarantor of public welfare, is initially strengthened after decades of erosion," he adds.

"The movement has been widely supported, but we would be naive if we think that the consensus will continue in the coming months and years. Fear and need will ease up , while group interests will remain active. Governments’ leadership will not be enough, we will need social majorities that sustain institutionalised solidarity over time" Arellano warns.
