On Tuesday, October 28, Eusko Ikaskuntza launched the first call for applications for the research promotion and support program developed in collaboration with the University of Deusto, the University of the Basque Country, Mondragon University, the Public University of Navarre, the University of Navarra, the National University of Distance Education, and the University of Pau and the Adour Region. The first call for applications in this initiative, coordinated by Javier Arrieta, a Law professor at Deusto, will remain open until Friday, November 22.

The aim of the program is to promote initial analysis of future research topics, support work in the early months, and facilitate the development of a "state of the art" for upcoming research lines. Specifically, three grants of €2,000 each will be offered for the 2024-2025 academic year. Applications may be submitted by PhD students, master’s students, or fourth- and fifth-year students in double degree programs, either individually or in groups.

During the launch event, Professor Arrieta specified that “the call for proposals is open in terms of topics, but thirteen priority areas for multidisciplinary research have been established.” He also added that, in terms of language, “proposals may be submitted in Basque, Spanish, or French, but Basque will be prioritized as the language in which to develop the research.”

Meanwhile, the president of Eusko Ikaskuntza, Ana Urkiza, explained that “this first call is part of the framework agreement signed in 2021 with the universities of the Basque Country to foster and strengthen cooperation and research topics relevant to our region.” Information about the program and the application form are available  here.
