The World Urban Forum is an open and inclusive platform to address the challenges of sustainability in cities around the world. This year’s edition took place from 8 to 13 February in Abu Dhabi. More than 13,000 attendees, 450 speakers, 500 events, 168 countries and 133 exhibitors have been part of this forum in which the connection between culture and innovation as a way to generate opportunities in cities has been approached.
Deusto Cities Lab Katedra organised a session called Co-creating innovative and sustainable cities with Universities / Academy, where the first edition of the Big Blue Book was presented. The Big Blue Book, written in collaboration with UN-Habitat, aims to collect in a map and from a holistic and comprehensive view, the knowledge that universities and research centres around the world are generating in the field of urban studies. Researchers and professionals from all over the world analysed the value of universities in the construction of sustainable cities in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 11 and the New Urban Agenda.
The Forum served Deusto Cities Lab Katedra also to establish relationships and collaborations with other universities and agents around the world. Moreover, Deusto representatives met the Director of the UN-Habitat, Madame Maimunah Mohd Sharif, and presented the publication Creative Cities: Mapping creativity driven cities, which explores the relationship between creativity and sustainable urban development through the analysis of cities that belong to the UNESCO Creative Cities network.
