Hall of the Faculty of Engineering

Deusto Alumni, together with the Faculty of Engineering, has launched the new HALL lecture series, a space for understanding technologies in an informal and relaxed atmosphere. The name of the series, as Lorena Fernández, Director of Digital Communication at Deusto, who acted as moderator, explained, takes on a twofold meaning: "one, the obvious site where it takes place (the hall of the Faculty of Engineering) and another, with technological overtones and suitable for science fiction lovers, the supercomputer HAL 9000, from the book and subsequent film “2001: A Space Odyssey", which was a veiled reference to the computer giant of the time: IBM (just move the abbreviation one place in the alphabet to get 'HAL')".

A very good introduction to meetings that seek to learn about good practices, exchange views with professionals and create a network with the Alumni community. XR Technologies" has been chosen as the starting theme for the initiative. As the starting theme for the initiative we have chosen "XR Technologies. Augmented reality", one of the latest technological trends. To talk about it, we had the opinion of Unai Extremo, CEO and founder of Virtualware Group, who explained why it is now the time for Virtual Reality technology and its boom in the business and industrial field. Then, Carlos Martínez, founder of Virtual Bilbao, spoke about virtual reality applied to leisure and how he started working with this technology.

Aitor Moreno, head of the AI & Quantum Computing department at ibermatica, focused on quantum computing in the metaverse era and use cases. He discussed what quantum computing is in broad terms, and how new quantum simulation systems will change engineering, research systems for new products, materials and pharmaceuticals, for example, and, of course, virtual reality environments, such as the metaverse. Finally, Iker Jamardo, a Google engineer in Silicon Valley, discussed the evolution of augmented reality and his (and Google's) vision of how it can be useful today and in the future.
