On 7 July, the University of Deusto and Bankoa ABANCA held the award ceremony for the “Juan José Etxeberria Monteberria grants,” presented to the students participating in the internship programme. This initiative, driven by both institutions, aims to support the growth of SMEs in new markets and facilitate the integration of young talent into these companies.

Thanks to this initiative, eight students from Deusto Business School degree programmes will receive a grant, funded by Bankoa ABANCA, to undertake internships at SMEs in the Basque Country, Navarre, and La Rioja that are pursuing expansion projects. This is the third edition of the programme, and the companies selected for this call are Batela 1991, Couth Industrial Marking Systems, Ezarri, Ekilor Renewable Energies, Gobesa, Recircular Environmental Services, Barakaldo Vet Shop, and Weroi. In the two previous editions, the SMEs chosen were Barakaldo Bet+shop, Bizi Cycle Tours, Coycavi, Ibarmia, Linq case, Satlantis, Cimico, GoBasquing, Naru and Ostatu.

During the grant award ceremony, held at the Loiola Centrum on the San Sebastian campus of the University of Deusto, the "Best Internship Student Award" was also presented to Olatz Azpiazu Aguirre, a 4th-year BMA + IMS student, and Diego Arbide Pérez de Heredia, a 4th-year BMA + FAB student, both from Deusto Business School, at the San Sebastian and Bilbao campuses, respectively.

The "Juan José Etxeberria Monteberria Bankoa ABANCA- Deusto Business School" internship programme has two direct beneficiaries. On one hand, the individual selected to receive support through this programme; on the other, the SME developing a growth project that will benefit from the contribution of this person during their internship, thereby aiding its development. The grants are named after Juan José Etxeberria Monteberria, a prominent figure in the business, academic, and socio-cultural spheres of the Basque Country.
