The University of Deusto and the University of Salvador (USAL) have signed an agreement to offer a double degree in Law, a milestone that marks a step forward in Deusto's commitment to the internationalisation of its degrees. This agreement allows both the recognition of subjects for Law graduates from USAL and a simultaneous study programme for Deusto students.

A delegation from the University of Deusto, led by Rector Juan José Etxeberria and accompanied by the Vice-Rector for Research and International Relations, Javier Arellano, and the Vice-Rector for University Community and Agenda 2030, Aitziber Irigoras, signed the agreement during an academic visit to the University of Salvador (USAL) on 17 November.

Within the framework of this agreement, the University of Deusto Law School and the University of Salvador’s Faculty of Legal Sciences will undertake actions to implement two main projects. On the one hand, the recognition of subjects for Law graduates from USAL at Deusto. And, on the other hand, a simultaneous double degree programme for Law students at Deusto Law School. The simultaneous double degree programme allows USAL students to enrol in July each year to begin courses at the University of Deusto in September, with specific requirements and regulatory adaptations.

At the signing ceremony, in addition to the Deusto delegation, the USAL team included the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, Romina Cavalli; the Vice-Rector for Research and Development, Luciana Tondello; the Vice-Rector for Education, Roxana Ruffo; the Dean of the Faculty of Legal Sciences, Livia M. Uriol; the Director of International Affairs for the Faculty, Martina L. Rojo; the Director of International Cooperation, Flavio Virgara; and the Director of International Mobility, Gabriela Ardito.

During the visit, the academic teams also worked on student and faculty mobility, joint research and technological innovation programmes, as well as new opportunities for institutional collaboration.  These new ties reinforce a historical connection between the two institutions dating back to 1988 through various agreements and exchange programmes, with both USAL and Deusto sharing the same Ignatian identity and roots.
