Aging and immigration, core themes of the ESTE Alumni Conference on innovation

On Thursday, 13 November, an ESTE Alumni Conference entitled:"Innovation:New consumers:aging and immigration? was held, organised by the Faculty of Economics and Business Studies at the University of Deusto- San Sebastian campus (ESTE). This conference provided an insight into the causes and consequences that the phenomenon of global aging and immigration has on businesses. It focused on the myriad of business opportunities and trends that have emerged as a result of the appearance of ?the new consumers?.

Participants included leading experts on the subject such as Clive Bowman and Rick Adler, who gave several lectures on ?new business opportunities? and ?new marketing? related to the myriad of business opportunities and trends that have emerged as a result of the appearance of these ?new consumers?. Clive Bowman, is Medical Director at BUPA Care Services.He worked as a Consultant in General Medicine and Geriatrics for 15 years; he was also Associate Director of the International Institute on Health and Aging at the University of Bristol.His professional experience, combined with his participation in several organisations on matters related to aging and care, have provided him with a unique perspective on health, care and attention of elderly people. Rick Adler is Chairman and CEO of the TSN Group. Founded in 1991, TSN is a company specialised in marketing and communications, and geared towards a mature audience in USA through networks, digital media on health, well-being and prevention. At present, he co-chairs the board of directors of the Silberstein Institute for Aging and Dementia, New York University School of Medicine.He is regarded as an expert in the trends and development of new products designed for mature consumers.


During the conference, Fernando Alfaro, Patron of the Bankinter Foundation for Innovation, also presented the main conclusions of the research work carried out by international experts and opinion leaders on matters related to innovation, members of the Future Trends Forum, the main project of the Bankinter Foundation for Innovation.This research work examines the causes and consequences of the phenomenon of aging and immigration. In addition, it highlights the importance that the understanding of this new reality has for businesses and governments, as well as the knowledge of these new and heterogeneous consumer segments, and their determining factors and priorities.
