On 6 April, Francisco José del Olmo, Deputy Director of Fintech and Cybersecurity at the CNMV, gave a talk on Cryptoassets at the Icaza Auditorium at Deusto Business School.

The event began with a short introduction to the Finance for All project by Raquel García, Director of Strategy, Innovation and Sustainable Finance at the CNMV.

Then, del Olmo began to delve into the different types of cryptoassets, blockchain, the difference between mining and staking, all with very practical and real examples. He also shared the functioning of assets such as Ethereum and NFTs with students, highlighting their most characteristic aspects.

This conference, organised by Deusto Investment Club and CNMV, left several messages: "It is important to be aware of the magnitude of the energy consumption of proof of work assets such as Bitcoin and Ethereum" and "in countries with high inflation such as Venezuela, Argentina… cryptoassets, especially stablecoins, are gaining a lot of weight, being a way to manage savings independently and enabling financial inclusion".

During the conference, del Olmo also explained his vision of the different cryptoassets and their differential factor, the importance of assessing and understanding the products in which one is investing, the specific features of stablecoins and the functioning of exchange stocks, among other aspects.

The event was attended by more than 150 students from different faculties of the University of Deusto, who at the end of the event raised issues and questions to the speaker on topics such as: the future of payment intermediaries, the advantages of cryptoassets for society, the impact on the environment, etc.
