XIX Jornadas de Derecho penal en homenaje a José María Lidón

Once again this year, the XIX Criminal Law Conference in homage to José María Lidón was held on November 7 and 8, with the aim of remembering the jurist murdered by ETA on November 7, 2001.

On this occasion, the conferences were special because they were the first to be held under the recently signed collaboration agreement between the University of Deusto, the General Council of the Judiciary and the General Administration of the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country, establishing the “José María Lidón Corbi Forum”. The agreement aims to join forces in the activities organized to highlight the person and values of the former professor of Criminal Law at the University of Deusto and judge at the Provincial Court of Bizkaia.

In this edition, the conference, which annually addresses the challenges faced by Criminal Law, revolved around the theme “Privacy and social networks”. In this sense, experts in the field from the university and professional practice showed, on the one hand, how privacy and other legal assets are damaged through behaviors carried out on social networks, and, on the other hand, how social networks are a source of information to locate those responsible for a crime.
