A total of 1840 students graduated from the University of Deusto in the 2006-2007 academic year

Last 28 January, on the feast day of its patron saint day, St. Thomas Aquinas, the University of Deusto held the graduation ceremonies for the students who completed their degree in the 2006-2007 academic year in the different Faculties and Schools. A total of 1840 students graduated, 187 of whom belong to the Faculty of Law, 74 to the Faculty of Arts, 251 to the Faculty of Philosophy and Education Sciences, 131 to the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration-La Comercial, 11 to the Faculty of Theology, 9 to the Faculty of Political Science and Sociology, 646 to the Faculty of Engineering, 201 to the Schools of Tourism and Social Work, 7 to the Higher Institute of Religious Sciences, 177 to the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration at ESTE faculty, San Sebastian campus, 102 to the Faculty of Humanities and 44 to the School of Tourism, San Sebastian campus.

It was to these new PhDs and BA graduates in Theology that the University of Deusto devoted the first of the graduation sessions on 28 January. It was held in the morning, in the Main Ceremonial hall, following the same protocol and tradition of over one hundred years.During this ceremony, which was presided over by the Rector of the University of Deusto, Jaime Oraá, the UD Degree Awards were also presented to last year?s most outstanding students as well as the Awards granted by the Medieta and Lambarri foundation to the best students from the different degrees in the Faculty of Engineering.

As for the Special Degree Awards for graduates in the 2006-2007 academic year, they were awarded to 34 graduates with the best academic records. Graduates were presented with a Certificate, and a grant covering enrolment fees to pursue PhD studies in the case of BA holders, or to pursue second-cycle courses, in the case of Diploma holders.

In addition, for the second year running, the Mendieta and Lambarri Foundation awarded the Prizes for the best students from the different degrees in the Faculty of Engineering. This year, the award-winning students included Pablo Ruiz Arteagoitia, from Technical Engineering in Management Computer Systems; Xavier Ibarrola Zamora, from Industrial Technical Engineering-Specialism in Industrial Electronics; Esther Illana Amillano, from Technical Engineering in Telecommunications- Specialism in Telematics; Alberto Resco Pérez, from Computer Engineering; Zuriñe Eguiluz Azcona, from Engineering in Industrial Organisation; Aitor Nieto Pujana, from Engineering in Automation and Industrial Electronics; and Ivan Núñez Vazquez, from Engineering in Telecommunications.

From 28 January, the different Faculties and Schools will be holding their respective Graduation ceremonies. The schedule is as follows:Law andEconomics and Business Administration-ESTE faculty (San Sebastian), on 2 February; Arts (Bilbao) and Humanities (San Sebastian), on 9 February; Philosophy and Education Sciences (Bilbao) and Tourism and Social Work (San Sebastian) on 16 February; Political Science and Sociology and Social Work (Bilbao), on 23 February; Economics and Business Administration-La Comercial faculty (Bilbao), on 1 March; 3 March; Engineering, on 10 March; Tourism (Bilbao) and Engineering, 8 March.
