During a talk given at Deusto Business School in Madrid, the president of the Círculo de Empresarios, (Business Leaders Circle) Javier Vega de Seoane, stated that the organisation he leads is extremely concerned about how business leaders are portrayed, above all if we take into account that there would be no social development without business leaders.

This was one of the reflections he made during the presentation of a book -Empresarios y bachilleres, la imagen del empresario en los libros de texto— written by a team led by Prof. José Luis García Delgado. After having analysed the texts released by the main publishing companies, the authors concluded that the image of business leaders could be improved.

During the event organised by the Madrid Business Forum and led by Iñaki Ortega, Prof. García Delgado stated that in spite of business leaders having a better image in comparison to a study conducted 15 years ago, there is still much room for improvement.

He pointed out that the books in the previous study conveyed a position bordering on hostility while the latest study notes that business leaders are merely not mentioned. Although this might be considered an improvement, lack of references to business leaders and their contribution to society require that actions be taken to tackle this situation.

The author of the report and the members of the Business Circle all agree. In line with their position, the Madrid Business Forum members also believe that providing students with a clear realistic view of business leaders and their economic and social roles could encourage them to become entrepreneurs and managers.
