On 30 May, the University of Deusto hosted the award ceremony for the 12th Aristos Campus Mundus Awards for Social Responsibility. The awards recognise excellence in categories including Best Practices in University Cooperation for Development, Best Practices in University Social Commitment, and the Ignacio Ellacuría Award for Studies of Social Interest. In addition to the award winners, the event was attended by the Vice-Rector for University Community and Agenda 2030, Aitziber Irigoras.
Berta Sitjar Armisén, from Ramon Llull University, won first prize in the Best Practices in University Cooperation for Development category for her undergraduate thesis titled "Palestinians and Israelis. Del diálogo entre iguales a la solidaridad en la diferencia”. The second prize went to Lucía Peláez Aurrecoechea, from the University of Deusto, for the project "Diseño de una instalación solar fotovoltaica en un hospital ubicado en Lunsar, Sierra Leona".
In the Best Practices in University Social Commitment category, first prize was awarded to Jesús Muñoz Muñoz from Comillas Pontifical University for the "Nyumbani Orphanage Ecovillage Project (Kenia)". The second prize was awarded to Candela Pardo Martínez and Ariadna Aliana Cano, from Ramon Llull University, for the project "Asistencia jurídica para mujeres víctimas de violencia de género en el Centro Juana".
Regarding the Ignacio Ellacuría Award for Studies of Social Interest, in the undergraduate category, first prize was awarded to the project titled “La gestión del talento de personas con síndrome de Down en el marco del Empleo con Apoyo. Una propuesta para su desarrollo y extensión”, by Joan Vila Valero, from Ramon Llull University. The second prize was awarded to Eva Barbancho López, also from the Ramon Llull University, for her work “La inclusión laboral de las personas en riesgo o situación de exclusión social en materia laboral y de empleo. Del Estatuto de los Trabajadores y la Ley Básica de Empleo de 1980 hasta la Ley de Empleo de 2023”.
Additionally, a joint second prize was awarded to the project "Diseño de prótesis auditiva de juguete. Promover un sentido de identidad y ayudar al desarrollo de una buena autoestima de niños y niñas con sordera", by Izadi Diego Eguren, Nerea de Dios Gómez, Uxue Castro Sánchez and Ana Villanueva Urralburu, from the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Deusto.
Special recognition was given to the following projects: “Denegación de atención en servicios sociales: interpretación del ‘Estado de Necesidad Personal Básica’ en Cataluña”, by Arnau Domingo Cendros, from Ramon Llull University; “Los derechos del arrendatario: una realidad desconocida” by Carla Gironès García, from Ramon Llull University; and “Análisis del delito de favorecer la inmigración ilegal (Art. 318 bis del Código Penal)” by Helena Díez Gallego, from the University of Deusto.
In the postgraduate category, first prize was awarded to “La cerámica como herramienta para trabajar la autoestima de mujeres con consumos de sustancias” by Paula Torres Català from the University of Deusto. The second prize was won by Laura Olaortua Castellanos and Begoña Rodríguez Campos, also from the University of Deusto, for their project "Frenos y motivaciones de la juventud vasca para colaborar con las ONG. Propuesta de acciones para el caso de UNICEF País Vasco”.
These awards form part of the Aristos Campus Mundus (ACM) International Campus of Excellence project, through which the universities of Deusto, Ramon Llull, Comillas, and Loyola reaffirm their commitment to the continuous improvement of teaching and research quality and excellence, while promoting the exchange of experiences and cooperation in joint initiatives.
