On 11 March, the University hosted the session "Sporting Events: 360ºOrganisation" to examine the inner workings of organising an official international event. Experts shared with students from the Faculty of Education and Sport what happens behind the scenes of these competitions that combine spectacle and promotion. They addressed the sportsperson’s perspective, the role of the sports physician, and Biscay as both a host and organiser of sporting events.
Following the opening by Isabel Rubio, Dean of the Faculty of Education and Sport, Vicente Martínez, President of the Royal Spanish Archery Federation, outlined the challenges of organising the Archery World Cup, while José Luis Tejedor, President of the Basque Gymnastics Federation, spoke about “Euskalgym,” a show that elevates sport to the level of performance and gymnastic art.
The session also featured the testimonial from Maialen Mielgo, World Rowing runner-up, who spoke about the experience of participating in a world championship. This perspective was complemented by Andoni Jauregui, sports physician, who analysed the role of medical services in major events.
The university event concluded with a presentation by Carlos Sergio, Director General of Sports at the Biscay Provincial Council, who highlighted the region as a leading host for global events, emphasising their economic and social impact.
