The European project, in which the University of Deusto collaborates, SIMPATICO: Simplifying the Interaction with Public Administration through Information Technology for Citizens and Companies has entered its final phase, planned for February 2019. This Horizon 2020 project aims to democratise administrative bureaucratic procedures through the internet.
The objective of the research project is to improve the experience of citizens and companies in their daily interactions with the public administration by facilitating the provision of digital administrative services via the web and making them more accessible through cognitive technologies, that is, those technologies that try to emulate the understanding of the humans.
To address its objectives, the project has developed a technological solution that combines natural language processing, machine learning and collective intelligence (represented by the collaborative contributions of citizens, businesses and civil servants) to facilitate and democratize the way in which citizens interact with the public administration, through the web pages of e-services.
Some of the relevant e-services examples selected in the pilot project, carried out with the Xunta de Galicia and enriched with SIMPATICO's technologies, are:
- the "Wellness Programme in Health Resors" so that retired people can apply for a place in the Galician health resorts;
- "Individual aid for the acquisition of services for the promotion of personal autonomy and the acquisition of complementary personal assistance services for persons with disabilities.
