Researchers of the Gender Interdisciplinary Platform contribute to the discussion on the COVID-19 impact

During the Spanish lockdown period due to COVID-19, different researchers of the Interdisciplinary Research Platform on Gender have been contributing to the exchange of knowledge and experiences on how the COVID-19 pandemic and associated lockdown are impacting on different gender related matters.

Some examples are:

• Demelsa Benito, Researcher at the Faculty of Law has published “Victim for being poor: the law must prosecute discrimination for aporophobia” in THE Conversation.
• Gema Tomás, Researcher at the Faculty of Law, has led the organisation of different Masterclasses on Compliance and Equality Plans. Details can be found at this Webpage.
• Izaskun Sáez de la Fuente, director of studies of the Centre of Applied Ethics, has published the blog “COVID-19: Gender equality, an urgent bet”.
• Leire Gartzia, Researcher at Deusto Business School has participated in the digital meeting “In the times of Coronavirus, + Care”, organised by Emakunde. This virtual dialogue it is part of a group of reflexion spaces to promote the implication of men in .the domestic and care tasks and to ensure that it is not limited to the lockdown period. • Lorena Fernández, Director of Digital Identity, has published the article “Coronavirus: the danger of the negative emotional contagion” in THE Conversation.
• María López Belloso, Project manager of the H2020 Project GEARING Roles, has published “Gender and Equality in the times of Coronavirus” in THE Conversation.
• María Silvestre Cabrera, Head of the Deusto Social Values, has published two articles, one in El Correo: “An impact with name of inequality” and another one in El Diario Vasco “Diary of a confinement”. She has also participated in the Webinar “The Europe of women”, to discuss about the feminisation of the care professions, the repercussions of confinement on women as well as their lower mortality and about whether this crisis will change in any way the position of women in society and the feminist cause.
