Mirelur González-Oronoz, from the Equality Unit of the University of Deusto, participated from September 16 to 19 in the Human Rights Internship Training Programme for young people, promoted by Un Etxea, with the support of the Basque Government. The group went to Geneva to learn about the UN Human Rights Council, at the 57th session of the Council.The aim of this initiative is to deepen in international instruments for the protection of human rights.
The group also attended the Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights at the Palais Wilson and met with Mikel Mancisidor who, in addition to being a member of the Committee, is a professor of International Law at Deusto. During this meeting, the participants were able to converse, resolve doubts and concerns and learn about the history of the Palais Wilson, a session that culminated with the fortuitous meeting with Volker Türk, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.
