Through the Research Awards UD-Santander, the University of Deusto and Banco Santander support the development of excellent research which seeks to respond to the challenges of today's society and influence its transformation. This award seeks to recognize and reward the research of excellence developed by the research teams of the University of Deusto attending to its scientific and social impacts.


The research work "New Skills Agenda Steel: Industry-driven sustainable European Steel Skills Agenda and Strategy (ESSA)" to define and develop future job profiles in the steel sector won first prize. The runner-up prize was awarded to "Evaluation of the Accessibility of Bilbao Bizkaia Hotels (BBAGHoteles)".

The ESSA project led by Aitor Goti, from the Faculty of Engineering aims to define and develop future job profiles in various areas, starting from the steel sector, that serves as a spearhead for others. Its objective is to design and deploy a coordinated, sustainable and industry-driven plan towards a European Skills Agenda.


The research work “Evaluation of the accessibility of the hotels in Bilbao Bizkaia (BBAG2019)”, led by Asunción Fernández-Villarán, researcher of the Leisure, Culture and Tourism from Social Transformation research group and member of the B-Creative Interdisciplinary Research Platform, has developed an innovative tool that offers detailed and objective information that allows each user to autonomously identify the accessibility conditions of the accommodation and make decisions based on their personal characteristics and circumstances.
