The international expert and consultant, Carlota Pérez talks at Deusto about the technological change and its socio-economic impact

Last 28 November, the international consultant and expert on the socio-economic impact of technological change, Carlota Pérez, gave a lecture entitled 'Hacia dónde va el mundo de hoy?' at the University of Deusto. The Venezuelan researcher and lecturer focuses on the evolution of previous technological revolutions to be able to foresee what will happen in the coming years with the ICT current revolution, and when the next technological revolution will come (biotechnology, nanotechnology, knowledge management). In the morning, prior to her lecture, Carlota Pérez met the students from the Faculties of Engineering and La Comercial.

Lecturer Carlota Pérez is a Venezuelan researcher, lecturer and international consultant. Her main field is the social and economic impact of technological change and the historically changing conditions for growth, development and competitiveness. She is a visiting research associate 2003-2006 at CERF (Cambridge Endowment for Research in Finance), Judge Institute, University of Cambridge, England, and Honorary Research Fellow at SPRU (Science and Technology Policy Research), University of Sussex, England, and Professor of Technology and Socio-economic Development, Technological University of Talin, Estonia.

The famous international consultant examines the technological change and its economic and social impact. Her theories present the evolution experienced by previous technological revolutions. Taking them as a starting point, she has established some standard behavioural patterns that are repeated in the cycles that gave rise to these revolutions. In this way, she is able to foresee what will happen in the coming years with the current ICT revolution, and when the next technological revolution will take place (biotechnology, nanotechnology, Knowledge management).
