Javier Arrieta Idiakez, Professor of Labour Law at the University of Deusto, explained his vision of the Constitutional Court's sentence which reduces the advantages of EPSV (a type of pension scheme in the Basque Country) in articles published in El País and Deia.
The articles were published in Basque in Deia on 11 July and in Spanish in El País a week earlier on 4 July. They were entitled “Euskal Herritarron Pentsio-Funtsak airean” and "Holding pension schemes in check” respectively. Arrieta began his articles with the aphorism “Izenik, badu, bada”(Everything that has a name exists) to defend the EPSVs in opposition to the sentence handed down by the Constitutional Court which declares some of the EPSV articles null and unconstitutional.
In Prof. Arrieta’s opinion, "this decision is doubly painful because it “hacks about" one of the main strengths of the Basque people's future welfare. This University of Deusto professor also denounced the sentence which denies “a clear example of updated Basque historical rights”.
