On 22 April 2025, the University of Cordoba was the venue for a seminar given by Luis I. Gordillo Pérez, Professor of Constitutional Law at the University of Deusto and former Basque MP. Gordillo, holder of the Jean Monnet FIDES Chair in Parliamentary Democracy, addressed the challenges faced by the European parliamentary democracy in the current context and talked with students about the European integration project and the constitutional situation in the USA.

The seminar brought together students from two of the most prestigious colleges in the United States, Wellesley College and Smith College, who were able to explore the crucial importance of preserving the European model of parliamentary democracy. In his speech, Luis I. Gordillo highlighted how parliamentary democracies must adapt to meet new challenges without compromising the fundamental principles of freedom and the rule of law that underpin democracy.

The FIDES Chair, which organises these seminars, is a Jean Monnet Chair funded by the European Commission. Through this initiative, the institutional commitment of our university to the dissemination of the European model of parliamentary democracy is reinforced. Seminars of this kind, such as the one held in Cordoba, are part of an effort to bring this model closer to students from all over the world, promoting understanding and appreciation of the democratic values that are essential for political and social stability in Europe.
