In the morning Aitor Alegria, Sales Development and support director, and Alvaro Collado, Vitoria DHL airport operations manager, participated as guest speakers in the courses of professor Esteban Salegi Arbizu. Face to face and also connected On line with DHL cargo terminal at Vitoria airport, the main DHL air Hub in Iberia.
During evening and night students visited the Road transport Hub in Jundiz Vitoria and DHL Express Hub in the airport.
Paul Quevedo, Alvaro Collado and Pablo López de Luzuriaga received us. Accompanied also by Professor Asier Minondo
They learned about the big transformation that the sector is undergoing in recent years, mainly due to two fundamental factors: The irruption of electronic commerce in our lives increasing B2C transport with delivery to final consumers at home. And the increasingly most necessary objective of reducing CO2 emissions throughout the logistics chain.
A great challenge since, on the one hand, is expected an increase on the number of transactions and deliveries, and on the other hand, it must be done by polluting less or nothing.
To this end, DHL is developing innovative logistics solutions such as setting up collection points for shipments, "Service Point" at less than 10 minutes distance from each private address. And the zero emissions goal has been set up for 2050.
One of DHL's challenges is to avoid the second or third delivery attempt, with the triple objective of satisfying the customer, not increasing costs and reducing the impact on the environment.
During the visit to the airport terminal and Hub they explained to us the operation of the tasks of unloading airplanes, scanning, control and classification of shipments and their subsequent loading on airplanes for shipments in transit and on trucks or delivery vans of shipments that will be delivered to business customers or final consumers.
