On 12 December 2019, the University of Deusto (Faculty of Social and Human Sciences), in collaboration with the Basque Government, organised the conference “Communication between public institutions and citizenship”. In the event, the results of the study “Political Communication and Citizens’ Trust in Public Institutions”, led by Xavier Barandiaran, Deusto researcher and member of the Strengthening Participation Interdisciplinary Research Platform, were presented and discussed.

In the conference programme, there were also two keynote presentations:

  • Citizenship and Participation: Towards a two-way democracy, by Domingo García Marzá (Professor of Ethics at the Jaume I University of Castellón)
  • Why don't people care anymore? Reflections to build bridges between political institutions and citizens, by María José Canel (Professor of Communication at Complutense University of Madrid)

The University of Deusto is supporting this line of research to advance the research on the communicative processes that occur between citizens and institutions.
