DOK Summit

12 November 2024

Bilbao Campus

In the framework of the Digital Open Knowledge Summit (DOK Summit), held on November 11, the University of Deusto was recognized as “the institution with the greatest impact on the development of Open solutions” for its digital switchboard project in the cloud. In addition to this award, other distinctions were given in different categories to entities such as the City Council of Bilbao, the Department of Technology and Innovation of the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, Lantik, or the Department of Education of the Basque Government, among others.

Organized by the Association of Knowledge and Technology Industries of the Basque Country, GAIA, by the Association of Free Technology and Open Knowledge Companies of the Basque Country, ESLE, and with the support of the Basque Government and the Provincial Council of Biscay, DOK Summit is one of the most relevant ICT events in Europe. Its objective is to analyze how technologies can help drive a more sustainable, inclusive and resilient digital economy.

The University of Deusto installed its first digital switchboard based on free software in 2007. It was one of the first switchboards of this kind in the Basque Country, which was a real challenge. The current switchboard, also based on open source technology, allows centralized and cloud-based management of all the telephone extensions of the Bilbao, San Sebastian and Madrid campuses, as well as the University Hall of Residence. A project of great complexity and impact, which is aligned with the objective, expressed in the strategic plan, to work on innovation, adaptation and updating of our own organization.
