DEUSTO participates in the Science Festival “Zientzia Azoka 2019”

The University of Deusto participated one more year in the “Zientzia Azoka 2019”, the Science Festival organised by Elhuyar on 11 May in Bilbao. Young students from 30 Secondary and Baccalaureate Schools presented the results of 90 scientific and technology projects answering a specific question or challenge. Besides them, students from Galicia, Catalonia and Portugal also participated in the festival.

These young people shared their experiences with professional researchers from universities and technology centres, who have also presented their work. In the case of the University of Deusto, the following 10 projects were presented:

  • FabAcademy, Digital Fabrication Programme, run by Neil Gershenfeld, from MIT and hosted by Deusto Fab since 20016, under the coordination of Szilárd Kados, María Corcuera, Anthony Moreano
  • SmartMotoChallenge, an interdisciplinary project from the Faculty of Engineering involving design, mechanics, electronics, informatics and industry.
  • Waste4Think project, waste management from the traditional models of final treatment and disposal of waste to new models of recycling and material recovery, based on the principles of the Circular Economy
  • GreenSoul project, aimed at achieving higher energy efficiency in public buildings by altering the way people use energy consuming shared devices (lights, printers) and personal devices (personal pluggable appliances).
  • INTER-ACT, a project led by the Researcher Rocío García Carrión, offering a space to learn and enjoy through social interaction, with technology and universal classical literature
  • Agency of primary caregivers in Bizkaia, by Karin Yancen researcher of the UNESCO Chair team
  • Know your brain, a workshop including different activities that show how the brain works and the ways we have to evaluate cognitive functions, coordinated by Natalia Ojeda.
  • Digital divide 3.0, a study about the inequalities due to gender that are reproduced during adolescence in Euskadi. Coordinated by María Silvestre.
  • Regional Competitiveness Observatory, from Orkestra, coordinated by Lorea Larrabeiti.
  • Social Impact Briefings in several disciplines.
