On 6 March 2020, the grassroots event “Schuman 2.0” took place at the University of Deusto, where participants jointly contributed to draft an updated version of the Schuman Declaration, a document that marked the beginning of the European project and led to the European Union creation.

Participants of different ages, cultural and social backgrounds came up with a new vision of Europe, taking into consideration the current global challenges embedded in the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

The 50 participants were divided into groups following a World Café format, with the aim of gathering everyone´s contribution and foster the discussion. The topics under discussion were SDG-related, namely:

  • good health and well-being (SDG 3)
  • quality education (SDG4)
  • gender equality (SDG5)
  • reduced inequalities (SDG10)
  • climate action (SDG13)
  • partnerships for the goals (SDG17)

At the end of the event, attendants presented their ideas in a written form, which was later used to draft a co-created proposal for the Declaration to be submitted by the University of Deusto to a European competition.
