The Network of Services for Persons with Disabilities in Universities (SAPDU in its Spanish acronym), in which the University of Deusto is as member, celebrated on 3 December 2020 (International Day of Persons with Disabilities) the launch of the Somos #ImpulsoSAPDU campaign.
This celebration is intended to send an encouraging message and offer the services of the universities as a resource and a fundamental pillar in the support of persons with disabilities.
In the Spanish University System, students with disabilities enrolled in undergraduate studies represent 1%. 0,9% is the percentage of this group within the teaching and research staff (PDI) and the figure rises to 2,5% for the percentage of persons with disabilities among the administration and services staff (PAS).
On the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the 61 universities making up this network made a video in which they emphasise that the new challenges stemming from the pandemic have defied some of the achievements reached by the universities in the field of inclusion. Nonetheless, far from regressing, they have served to build momentum and provide an effective and coordinated response in the defense of a higher education accessible to all.
SAPDU highlighted the involvement and collaboration of teaching and research staff and university administration and service staff in its work to enable the participation of persons with disabilities by implementing recommendations to facilitate the learning process during this atypical course.
