The University of Deusto has reached its historical maximum on the number of excellent research teams of highest grade. After the Basque Government decision of 26 June 2019, the University of Deusto has today 15 research teams of level A (the highest grade) recognised. In relation to the total number of recognised research teams (A and B research teams), DEUSTO has gone up from 9 in 2007 to 24 today.
The rector, José María Guibert, congratulated DEUSTO’s research community for a recognition that is "the result of a strategy and a clear commitment to a research aimed at facing the challenges of today's society - a strategy based on six "i"s, that is: internationalisation, interdisciplinarity, intersectoriality, impact, innovation and inclusion".
The Basque Government decision confirms a very significant growth trend, that is also corroborated by other indicators, such as the number of indexed publications or the number of accredited research tiers, which have been multiplied in the period 2015-2018 by 2.5 and 3.9, respectively. DEUSTO's participation in the EU Frameworks for Research and Innovation has also gone up from 6 projects in the 2002-2006 period to 34 projects in 2014-2020. In the Times Higher Education World University Ranking, which includes the 1,258 best world universities from more than 80 countries, DEUSTO has been recognised as a "research intensive university", ranking 440th in the world total, and as the sixth Spanish university and the first non-public university.
