University of Deusto

The University of Deusto and the association APNABI Autismo Bizkaia have signed a cooperation agreement with the aim of strengthening ties between the academic world and the social reality of people with autism. This agreement establishes a framework for joint work, enabling the Faculty of Education and Sport and the social organisation to share resources, knowledge, and projects that benefit both university students and the community of people with autism.

Through this partnership, both institutions commit to a continuous exchange of information. APNABI, for its part, will share training activities of interest with the university community, while the academic institution will keep the association informed about its educational offerings and projects related to social intervention. The agreement places special emphasis on the creation of research, development and innovation (R+D+i) programmes, facilitating the shared use of facilities and equipment to advance scientific knowledge on autism.

Training and professional placements

One of the key pillars of this partnership is professional development and knowledge transfer. The agreement includes the supervision of external placements for University of Deusto students at APNABI centres and services, as well as the completion of final-year projects, Master’s dissertations, and doctoral theses on areas of mutual interest. In this way, it ensures that future professionals in the educational and social sectors gain direct, specialised experience with the real support needs of the community.

Furthermore, the collaboration will extend to the organisation of seminars, conferences, and continuing professional development courses. These actions will aim not only at academic dissemination, but also at mutual guidance in study planning and the joint pursuit of external resources from public and private institutions, whether at the local or international level. The ultimate goal is to promote an innovative culture that enhances the response to the professional, educational, and social needs of people with intellectual disabilities.
