On 13 September, the University hosted one of the sessions of the Conference ‘The Author in the New World of Publishing’, organised by the Basque Writers' Association/Euskadiko Idazleen Elkartea (AEE/EIE) under the title “Books in Transit”. In addition to Deusto, the Basque Government, the Provincial Library of Bizkaia, Sala BBK, the Basque Publishers' Guild and Cedro (Spanish Centre for Reprographic Rights) collaborated in this 11th edition. Among the speakers were Basque filmmaker Pablo Berger, who received an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Film for his feature film Robot Dreams. Admission is free until full capacity is reached.

The conference held at the Deusto Library featured presentations by Rickard Lundberg, executive director of the translation, production and distribution service Aniara, and Neus Casanova, translator and literary proofreader specialising in the audiobook sector, who talked about the importance of being translated into other languages and the role that artificial intelligence plays in this area.

There was also a panel discussion, moderated by literary agent Nuria Ostariz, in which Guillermo Schavelson, a literary agent specialising in audiovisuals and the sale of rights, spoke with EITB's director of audio and digital content, Maite Goñi, about the adaptation of books into audiovisual format for platforms and screens. In the next round table debate, Oier Aranzabal, from the ULU production company, and Mar Abad, from El Extraordinario, addressed the potential of podcasts to tell stories and travel to other formats.

A new round table entitled ‘Don't fear the wolf’ featured Luis Collado (News & Publishing Lead - Google EMEA) and El Confidencial journalist José Mendiola, a marketing and strategic communication consultant. Both spoke in depth about artificial intelligence, focusing on the generative AI Gemini. Andoni Eguíluz, from the University of Deusto, moderated the round table.
