One of the main challenges for indigenous peoples in Brazil and throughout Latin America is the recognition of their right to land and its natural resources. It is a question of physical, cultural and spiritual survival.

Constanza Lelis, in the framework of a collaborative project between the University of Deusto and Tiradentes University, has presented in a seminar held at the Faculty of Law on Thursday, October 3, the fight of the Xocó indigenous community in the State of Sergipe, in the Northeast of Brazil, for the recognition and guarantee of their right to land, territory and natural resources.

State neglect has been a constant despite the recognition of the right to land and its demarcation in the Brazilian Constitution of 1988.
