The Pedro Arrupe Human Rights Institute at the University of Deusto hosted a Citizens' Dialogue on solidarity in Europe. The European Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management, Christos Stylianides, took part in this event, which is a response to President Jean-Claude Juncker’s request that the European Commission members work to bring European Institutions closer to citizens. This is to be achieved through open debate on issues that currently affect the European Union as the countdown to the May elections begins.

The University of Deusto’s strong focus on human rights research through the Human Rights Institute and training specialists thanks to the tradition and prestige of the NOHA Master’s degree in Humanitarian Aid were key factors in the decision to hold this conference. The UD has played a key role in this European postgraduate programme since it was created 25 years ago.
