Estibaliz Amorrortu holds a bachelor degree in Basque Philology from the University of Deusto and PHD in Linguistics from the University of Southern California. She is currently a Professor in the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences, where she teaches Sociolinguistics courses in the degrees of Basque Language and Culture and Modern Languages. Her research interests focus on the relation between language and society, language attitudes and ideologies, language identities, processes of muda, types of speakers, especially in the Basque case. During the past few years, she has been working on new speakers of Basque. She is co-author of the book Nuevos hablantes del euskera: esperiencias, actitudes e identidades (2016). She is curretly the principal investigator of the following project: “Sociolinguistic transformation processes in the Basque context: speakers, practices and agency (EquiLing-Basq)” (PID2019-105676RB-C42 / AEI / 10.13039/501100011033).
