The European Commission has launched and initiative to carry out a fitness check of EU legislation on violence against women and domestic violence. This evaluation aims to assess what more can be done on this issue, and it will:
- assess whether current EU legislation has helped prevent and combat violence against women and domestic violence, and whether there are gaps in the legislation;
- analyse whether EU measures are consistent with sources of international law;
- analyse whether greater protection is needed against this form of discrimination.
As part of this initiative, the EC is proposing a roadmap and is asking for feedback which will be taken into account for further development and fine tuning of the initiative.
The roadmap is open for feedback until 21 August 2020. The Commission will summarise the input received in a synopsis report explaining how the input will be taken on board and, if applicable, why certain suggestions cannot be taken up. Feedback received will be published on this site and therefore must adhere to the feedback rules.
