Launch of the European project GEARING-Roles: the University of Deusto leads a H2020 project committed to equality between women and men

GEARING-Roles is a strong multidisciplinary project involving 10 European academic and non-academic partners. The project will look at 6 Gender Equality Plans in Research Institutions to challenge and transform gender roles and to work towards real institutional change. The project has a duration of 4 years and is funded by Horizon 2020.

On 17-18 January 2018, the University of Deusto hosted the kick-off meeting of the new European project GEARING-Roles. The project is coordinated by the University of Deusto and receives the financial support of the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation  - Horizon 2020, to design, implement and evaluate 6 equality plans in 6 European institutions, being DEUSTO one of them. The meeting counted with the participation of the different members of the consortium team, coming from all over Europe (Portugal, Slovenia, Belgium, the Netherlands, United Kingdom, Turkey, Estonia, Ireland and Spain).

In the 17th January event, the project was officially presented to the relevant stakeholders. In the opening session, the Rector of the University of Deusto, José María Guibert welcomed the consortium members  and presented the project to the University community and Basque society. In the following session, Izaskun Landaida (Director of Emakunde), Katherine Quesada (European Commission project officer) and Maria Silvestre (project coordinator) highlighted the relevance of the GEARING-Roles project. Basque society representatives discussed the importance of equality plans in organisations, companies, institutions and universities in the next session.

The 18th  January meeting was dedicated to internal project management issues with all the consortium members.
