Eusko Ikaskuntza, the University of Deusto and the University of the Basque Country UPV/EHU, collaborate in a research project on the Basque entrepreneurial activity

Last 25 October, the second reporton the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor project, GEM CAPV 2005, which evaluates entrepreneurship in the Basque Country, was presented by the lecturer at the University of Deusto and director of the GEM project, Iñaki Peña, and Ignacio de la Vega, from the Institute of Business and director of the GEM project in Spain. This research project, created in 2004 with the participation of Eusko Ikaskuntza, the University of Deusto and the University of the Basque Country, shows the current situation of the Basque Autonomous Community in the national and international entrepreneurial context, when compared with 35 countries.

This second executive report is based on interviews with 36 experts and surveyscarriedout amongnearly 2,000 people in the Basque Autonomous Community. The GEM CAPV 2005 project examines issues that do not only reveal the current situation of the Basque Autonomous Community in the international and national entrepreneurial context. It also covers those aspects thatcharacterise the entrepreneurial behaviour, business project financing, the entrepreneurial profile, the current situation of women entrepreneurs, the opportunities for business set up, the economic impact of new businesses, and the suitability of the current economic, social and cultural environment in the Basque Autonomous Community to carry out entrepreneurial activities.

Participants in this presentation included: Ana Aguirre Zurutuza, Minister of the Department of Industry, Commerce and Tourism of the Basque Government;Javier Retegui, Chairman of Eusko Ikaskuntza; Miguel Angel Gutiérrez, Deputy Rector for Research at the University of the Basque Country; Julia M González Ferreras, Deputy Rector for International Relations at the University of Deusto.
