The “Sponsor an Athlete” project, an initiative through which companies can support individual athletes from different Olympic and Paralympic disciplines, has given its latest award to the Sports Innovation Leadership Programme (PLID) at Deusto Business School. The programme is co-led by former cyclist Jose Antonio Gonzalez de la Rosa and athlete Chema Martinez.
In the University Award category, Deusto Business School has been recognised for its support to the organization and the sports world. The aim is to highlight the universities and business schools that make a special effort to support elite Spanish athletes in their academic endeavours. Its efforts centre on financing study grants and making additional facilities available to combine elite sport with educational degrees.
Among the other categories that the project “Sponsor an Athlete" recognized (Woman entrepreneur/ executive in sport; Paralympic sports awareness; Sport-related social projects, Sports blog; Sports startup; Athlete support project; Dissemination Award, Award against homophobia in sport and project supporters),was the Special prize that went to canoeist David Cal, as a tribute to his sport career. In the first edition, the athlete Fermin Cacho received this prize.
The strategic goals of the Sponsor an Athlete Awards are to give public support to athletes, paying tribute to their effort and commitment to sports; improve the visibility of the partner companies in the project; provide a networking space in which sponsors can interact with each other and institutions, authorities, sports federations, athletes, while encouraging the involvement and commitment of other companies, authorities, the media and society as a whole with our Olympic athletes.
The upcoming Sports Innovation Leadership Programme at Deusto Business School begins next January and is aimed primarily at people wishing to develop or advance their careers as entrepreneurs and managers within the sports industry.
The academic staff of this program is formed by prestigious professionals related to the sports world (managers, representatives, journalists, doctors, etc.) and covers all the aspects that make up this industry, from the organization of events, through management models, marketing or legislation, to medicine.
