Basauri
Around 27% of the people in the municipality of Basauri are over 65, 22% reside in their home and the majority live alone. This situation may cause situations of isolation, falls and more serious accidents without anyone noticing it. Given this situation, the Municipality of Basauri has launched the project BBK Behari that seeks to detect loneliness and social isolation cases. The initiative proposes a model of social intervention that incorporates new technologies and the participation of the community as a reinforcement to the Municipal Social Services in the response to the identified situations of elderly loneliness.
The BBK Behari project is the result of a joint collaboration between the municipality of Basauri, the Provincial Council of Bizkaia and the University of Deusto, through the research project 'Friendly cities with the elderly' which seeks to make the municipalities accessible and adapted to older people.
