The Faculty of Law of the University of Deusto, together with representatives of the Interdisciplinary Research Platform on Gender, will host and organise several events on gender equality topics in 2019.
The first of these events is a workshop titled “Overcoming the double poverty of women victims of gender violence: Innovation and opportunities for employment” organised by the Oñati International Institute for the Sociology of Law and taking place on 16-17 May. The event is coordinated by Ana Vidu, Aitziber Mugrarra and Mariola Serrano Argueso, all researchers of the University of Deusto. You can register to the event at this page.
On 19-20 September, the University of Deusto will host the congress “Woman as the Engine of Social and Legal Innovation”. This event is a new edition of the “"Carmona Movement for the Feminisation of Private Law" which was born in the Andalusian city of Carmona in 2009 and was promoted by the Civil Law Professors Rosario Valpuesta, Mª Carmen Gete-Alonso y Calera, Teodora Torres García, Ana Cañizares Laso and María Paz García Rubio, in response to the concerns about the invisibility of gender issues in Private Law. The event will address three main issues. In the first place, the evolution of the legal order, applying criteria of transversality, will be addressed. Secondly, it will cover leadership, employment and innovation in the economy, from a broad perspective and in an increasingly complex and disruptive environment. Thirdly, the European Union strategies to promote equality and fight against discrimination and violence against gender and harassment, as well victims’ protection will be a subject of reflection.
