Moments before the start of the meeting of the Etxepare Institute's Board of Trustees, held on May 19 at the Lehendakaritza headquarters, the Vice Rector of the San Sebastian campus and Language Policy, Xabier Riezu, handed over the new Language Policy Master Plan to the Lehendakari of the Basque Government, Imanol Pradales and Ibone Bengoetxea, First Vice-Chancellor of the Basque Government and Minister of Culture and Language Policy.
During this informal meeting, Vice Rector Riezu stressed that the Deusto Plan responds to the request made by the Lehendakari to the University in his speech at the opening of the academic year 2024-2025, urging to continue advancing in the development of the Basque language and its integration in all fields of knowledge and culture. In particular, the Lehendakari then highlighted the decisive role of the universities, and especially Deusto, in the consolidation of Basque in higher education. The Master Plan assumes new commitments in areas such as academia, the university community, communication and social commitment.
The conversation also pointed out the qualitative leap that the University intends to make in the use of English in all areas, in order to continue advancing in its internationalization.
After the presentation of the Plan, the heads of the Basque Government and Deusto agreed to seek new ways of collaboration in the promotion of the Basque language and culture and multilingualism, in line with the strategy outlined in the Plan.
