In November 2019, the ATELIER project joined the ever growing community of overall 17 Horizon 2020 Smart Cities and Communities Lighthouse projects funded by the European Commission. Coordinated by the City of Amsterdam, and combining the expertise and the commitment of 30 partners from 11 countries, among them the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Deusto, ATELIER aims to create and replicate Positive Energy Districts (PEDs) in Europe.

For the next five years the project will showcase innovative solutions that integrate buildings with smart mobility and technologies to create rather than consume energy in its two Lighthouse Cities Amsterdam and Bilbao. In parallel, the six Fellow Cities Bratislava, Budapest, Copenhagen, Krakow, Matosinhos and Riga, will learn from these innovations and test them for replicability according to their specific local conditions.
