On Thursday, 7 April, the Plenary Hall of San Sebastian City Council hosted the awards ceremony for the 31st edition of the ESME Contest for the best business idea. This initiative, organised by ESME Junior Enterprise, part of Deusto Business School, in which 65 groups have taken part, including a total of 209 participants (the highest number in comparison with previous editions), aims to be a first contact with the business world for students in their first and second year of baccalaureate or intermediate and higher vocational training cycles in the Basque Autonomous Community.
The competition consists of the proposal and development of an original and viable business idea in which aspects such as the type of business chosen, location, structure, number of workers, competitors, steps to start up the business, financing, viability, etc. must be developed. The XXXI edition had the collaboration of Adegi, Fomento San Sebastian, Giant Bici, Salto System, Delta Group, Department of Economic Promotion of the City Council of San Sebastian, The Graft Club, Hotel Londres y de Inglaterra, Acunsa Gipuzkoa Basket, Noticias de Gipuzkoa and Deusto Business School.
The winning project of this edition was "ADOREZ" from San Benito Ikastola (Lazkao). The team, made up of Maria Zubiarrain, Telmo Munduate and Eneritz Macicior, has designed an innovative project that facilitates the daily life of the elderly by instructing them in the technological updates and applications that we receive on a daily basis.
The event, which was attended by Asun Ibañez (Vice-Dean of Deusto Business School), Alain Arana (Founding Partner of TGC) and Eneko Goia (Mayor of San Sebastian), among others, had a reduced capacity due to the current health situation. Those responsible for ESME Junior Enterprise highlighted the high level of the projects presented and, above all, the enthusiasm and effort that the students have made over the last few months. They also thanked all the counsellors of the participating schools as well as sponsors and teachers of the Faculty, whose involvement has made it possible for these ESME student entrepreneurs to combine classes with the development of the competition.
Prizes worth around €3,000 will be awarded to the 5 finalists. In addition, the Faculty of Economics and Business Studies of the University of Deusto at the San Sebastian campus will grant the finalists a scholarship to support those "entrepreneurs" who decide to study at the Faculty in the future.
ESME Junior Enterprise is a non-profit association formed, managed and run by students of Business Administration and Management (ADE) and Communication of the University of Deusto in San Sebastian (ESTE). Founded more than 30 years ago, it carries out its advisory and consultancy activity with the guarantee of the skills and knowledge acquired in one of the most prestigious business schools in Spain. The idea of creating a Junior Company was proposed by the professor of the Faculty, Javier Miner, who had heard about a Junior movement started in France and its expansion in Spain. After its incorporation in 1988, ESME began to develop its activity as a consultancy. As part of this activity, ESME is able to carry out work on the different subjects that the students are learning.
