Ana Estévez, Researcher at DEUSTO team Assessment, Clinics and Health (Faculty of Psychology and Education) has participated, in collaboration with Celside Insurance and PantallasAmigas, in a study on awareness and use of mobile phone among teenagers.

According to a survey run among around 1,350 Secondary Education grade students from public and concerted schools in Barcelona and Madrid, it appears that 8 out of 10 teenagers are aware that they use too much their mobile phone. In particular, the survey shows that 42% of respondent students believe that their academic performance has been affected several times by the use of the network and 25% recognise that has stopped studying or seeing friends for using the smartphone.

Another interesting fact relates to the use of mobile phones during Covid-19 confinement. According to the results of the survey, 40% of students in 1st grade normally use their mobile up to 3 hours per day during the week and more than 18% between 3 and 6 hours. However, the average connection time has increased by 2 hours for 37% of respondents during the pandemic alarm time and by 3 hours for 23%. The main use has been to communicate with friends as well as to study for 87% of the adolescents.
