The European Commission launched the 3rd Call for Reference Sites in July 2019. The call was open to both new and existing Reference Sites, that can build upon the policy changes introduced since the 2nd Call in 2016.
The University of Deusto is an active partner in the Basque Country application, together with the Basque Ministries for Health and for Employment and Social Policies, the Provincial Council of Biscay and the Basque Public Health Service Osakidetza, as well as other actors. The Basque Country’s application demonstrates the existence of comprehensive strategies to advance innovation for active and healthy ageing, based on a "Quadruple Helix" model including stakeholders from industry, civil society, academia and government authorities at regional and local levels.
The attribution of stars by the European Commission is based on a peer review that will take place between 6 to 15 September 2019. In the previous calls, the Basque Country´s application was awarded with the highest rating of four stars in 2016 and a three-star rating in 2013.
