DEUSTO organises a roundtable on Practices of Excellence in the professional development of girls, young and adult women in STEM

The Roundtable on Practices of Excellence in the professional development of girls, young and adult women in STEM was held on Friday 6 March at the University of Deusto.

During this session the following topics were covered:

  • practices of excellence and barriers to the professional development of girls, young and adult women in STEM Careers (by Dr Helen Knorr, a professor in the School of Business at Point Park University, USA, and Entrepreneurship Professor at University of Salamanca, Spain, as well as HR Consultant).
  • overview and experiences of the INSPIRA STEAM project and its implementation, as well as presentation of the career progression leaky pipeline model (by Dr María Luz Guenaga, Professor at the Faculty of Engineering and Director of the Deusto LearningLab research group and by Lorena Fernández, Deusto’s digital identity Director; and both members of the Gender Interdisciplinary Research Platform).
  • personal and professional experiences in the Health Science field were shared by Professor Kathryn H. Schmitz (Associate Director of Population Sciences at Penn State University College of Medicine, and Professor in the Department of Public Health Sciences in the Division of Health Services and Behavioral Research, as well as fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine).

Speakers and members of the audience also committed to explore potential ways of collaboration between the different teams and institutions.
